Copywriter

Accessible Teaching, Learning, and Assessment Systems (ATLAS), a research center at the University of Kansas, is seeking text writers to develop passages for the Dynamic Learning Maps® (DLM®) Alternate Assessment System. Writers will create both original texts and texts adapted from previously published works for use by students with the most significant cognitive disabilities and, in so doing, provide opportunities for students to demonstrate what they know and can do.

Writers will be provided with assignments and compensated on a per-assignment basis. There are multiple openings to be filled, and we are seeking writers from across the United States.

 

  • Adapt previously published literary texts for use in the DLM assessment for students with significant cognitive disabilities 
  • Draft original informational texts about specified topics, also for use in the DLM assessment 
  • Ensure that texts are of high quality and developed according to specifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in English, Creative Writing, or related area 
  • At least one published text, not including self-published works 
  • At least one year of experience writing to provided specifications
  • Experience writing texts for children of a range of grade levels 
  • An understanding of children’s literacy and reading skill acquisition 
  • Experience modifying existing texts for children who read a variety of different levels

Compensation

  • $150 per accepted passage

  • $200 per accepted passage beyond five

  • $25 per rejected passage
